| This
CD has been the product of many months of design work utilizing the
programs Dreamweaver MX, Photoshop 7, and Flash 6.0. I have taken
special precaution to make sure this CD is compatable with both the
PC and Macintosh platforms with no deviation required in the files
or their applications. By using direct file names instead of complex
file mapping, this CD is a direct translation of the information stored
at my website: dobiedesigns.com.
Although this CD is a static recording of my work, the website is
dynamic and is being constantly updated with my new projects and updated
information. If you like the work you see here and want to see more,
please visit and bookmark my site for the latest news!!! |
| This
CD is copywrited to Mark Dobelstein as of October of 2003. Although
I invite everyone to download, use, and share the images found on
this CD for desktop wallpaper, and artistic appreciation, none of
the files contained on this CD can be used for profit. |

| The
Dobelstein is Not
Art movement was started in 1999 as a college project
for the University of Florida's College of Fine Arts. While taking
drawing, painting, and computer graphics courses, I came up with the
phrase as a negative campaign against myself in order to promote my
own gallery openings. This slogan was fed into dorm mailboxes, flyered
over campus, spray-painted onto the 34th street wall, and adorned
the bumpers of over 50 pizza delivery drivers vehicles in the town
of Gainesville. The bumper stickers have been seen as far south as
Orlando, and as far north as New York City! The project has spawned
a video, a local art exhibit, a CD, and now this webpage. |

| The
Resume stored on this CD
is current as of March of 2004 and is available in both Microsoft
Word format and Adobe Acrobat PDF format. This is for the benefit
of both PC and Macintosh users. The Resume includes a list of the
Skills I have acquired in Web Design, Graphic Design, Video Editing,
Flash Animation, as well as my professional skills in business oriented
technology. It also contains a complete record of my Education and
Work Experience. You can find contact information here for myself
and five references. More references are available upon request, and
updates of both references and contact info can be found at my website
dobiedesigns.com. |

| Web
Design - Shown here are a collection of webdesign work completed
for personal projects as well as comissioned works for both small
and large companies. I completed this work in a freelance capacity
and with no affiliation with any other company or design firm. Although
some of the content material has been supplied by the benefactor,
the layout and design is 100% original and is not part of any pre-packaged
web site product. In some cases, stock images are represented for
actual company patrons. |
| Gumby's
- The licensee
of Gumby and Pokey has been given to Gumby's Pizza for use in their
marketing and advertizing. Although as of March of 2004 the layout
is not currently being used for the official website, gumbyspizza.com
the work was commissioned by members of the business for design comparrison.
The goal of the project was to give a face-lift to the current site
while maintaining the core layout of the existing pages. When I began
the project the logo has degraded and was reconstructed with Photoshop.
A flash enhanced site and non-flash alternative were created, and
the use of I-frames consolidated the content into a static page with
a dynamic portal. All functionality of the forms have been removed
and left in a mock-up version of the complete site. This work is still
under review by Gumby's Pizza. |
| The
Marion Theatre - This site was created for the Marion Film and
Visual Arts Foundation [MFVAF] and is currently posted at http://themariontheatre.org.
The organization is renovating the Marion Theatre in downtown Ocala
to restore the original art-deco designs, as well as adding a digital
screen, plush seating, and a state of the art sound system. When completed,
this theatre will host the "Florida Family Film Festival [F4]"
and the "52 A Student Film Festival" events both sponsored
by the MFVAF and it's contributors. Here, I have shown the final version
delivered to the MFVAF as well as three other option I presented to
the group after numerous meetings. I have also included the original
rough draft that was created to show the site's potential to the organization.

| Fishing
- This site was
created for Jim and Mandy Hunter. Their property in northern Jacksonville
Florida sits on a salt-marsh inlet that leads to the mouth of the
St. Johns river and directly out into the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounding
this inlet are several hiking trails of varying difficulty. The work
began through several conversations about their plans to charter Northern
Florida eco tours. As with the Gumby's site, this posting is a mock-up
of the completed version of the site. Stock photographs are used on
the "pictures" section of this site as place holders for
actual marketing material. |
| Wedding
- These two websites were made to display the photographs I took at
the wedding of Becky
and Lance Hyde and Cindy
and Brodie Waters. The website for the Waters
wedding was designed in conjunction with the DVD video created for
the event. Many of the pictures displayed here are also used as stills
in the DVD of the wedding. The images from the Hyde
wedding have also been used for desktop wallpaper, email correspondence
with the families, and as envelope and stationary letterhead. |
| Painting
- This is a collection
of paintings I've done both in and out of college. All are oil paintings
as well as oil with mixed media. Work is shown on canvas and on coverstock
paper. I photographed each image with a digital camera and used photoshop
to crop and size the works. |
| Clouds
- These photographs
were taken in my backyard in Gainesville Florida. The project was
to create a series of images containing a limited color spectrum of
blues, greys, whites and blacks. In several pictures, a telephone
cord acts as a deliberate stroke bisecting the frame. Although the
immediate use of these jpg files are for desktop wallpaper, they are
intended to be adjusted to 300 dpi rgb TIFF files for the purpose
of being transfered to traditional film. I would like to see these
photographs shown in either the Spring Arts or Downtown Gainesville
Art Festival. |
| Flyers
- These are simple
graphics made for local Gainesville food service companies. They have
appeared in the Mini Mint magazine (a Gainesville based monthly coupon
book), on door knob hangers, and as advertizing on food delivery materials.
|
| Peppers
- This company
delivered chicken wings to the University of Florida and its outlining
communities. The idea for the project was based on cartoon work used
previously in less professional flyer campaigns. |
| Pizza
- These are a group
of ideas put together for Pizza Masters, a delivery service for the
north-west Gainesville residential areas. A relatively new alternative
to popular pizza establishments, plans for future web design and promotional
work are under discussion. |
| Rental
Guide - This
project was started to create advertizing for the studentrentalguide.com
(a website that I did not design). The requirements were to create
a selection of logo designs in black and white, with two color separations,
with a silhouette detail for vinyl cut-out, and in a full color spread.
|
| Sketchbook
- This was the
result of many hours labour over more than a dozen sketchbooks filled
during my college days at the University of Florida and the Florida
School of Art. All works contained within are original drawings and
digital imagery created from these sketchbooks and are presented in
the framework of a virtual sketchbook design. Each page contains thumbnails
of larger peices which loosly adhere to similar stylization and theme
from page to page. The last page of the book shows photographs of
my volunteer work for Gainesville's Downtown arts festival in which
I worked in the Imagination station, a creative workshop for children.
Also found here is a clipping of the Gainesville Sun which documents
a mixed media sculpture gallery being created for the Common Grounds
Coffee House on University Avenue in December on 1997. If you've seen
or heard of the Dobelstein Is Not Art campaign and are interested
in supporting the cause, a full size version of the bumpersticker
is downloadable from this site. |
|
| Comics
- This is a collection of comic strips originally created for an employee
news letter for Atlantic.Net. As it was an internal newsletter, the
subject matter concerns misunderstood computer etiquette and the humorous
conversations between customers and our call center. The strip ran
for 18 weeks. |
|
| Softball
- In the early
spring of 2003, the second official season of the Atlantic.Net "Bytes"
co-ed softball team played a weekly game against other local businesses.
These video clips are an enhanced documentary of the games played.
The filming was done by myself and Elizabeth Neiderpruem, with occasional
film work from other team members. Using a firewire connection, the
digital tapes were transferred to .mov files using my I-mac and the
program I-movie. The examples shown here along with others not shown
were compiled into a 30 minute movie made for the organization. The
translation from .mov to .avi was done with the program Adobe Premiere
on my PC. To get a sense of the amount of editing work required to
make this film, the "Bytes" 2003 Spring season finished
with a winless record. =( |
| Student
Film - This
piece is comprised of digital cartoon projects interspersed with film
work of myself while working at my pizza delivery job. The original
work was developed for display at a gallery opening in Gainesville
Florida. The idea of the piece was to depict the wandering thoughts
that came to me while working at my college job. These thoughts manefested
in the images of my comic strip "Pinkboy and Stupid". This
strip was abandoned in the late 90's and has yet to be resurrected. |
| Football
- Here are links to two video clips compiled from highlight footage
of wins in the 2003 season by the Jacksonville Jaguars. I had the
good luck to be present at both of these blacked-out games and made
the quicktime movies to show my friends and family what they had missed.
The music is used without authorization, and these video was used
without the consent of the NFL or the many news and sports shows I
received the highlights from. However, no profit was gained from them
and I display them here only to showcase my experience in video editing.
|
| Disc
Golf - This is
a short film detailing my complete ineptitude in the sport of Disc
Golf. The game is played very much like regular golf, except a disc
is used in place of the ball and a chain-link basket in place of the
hole. You can find more information about this sport at the website:
www.pdga.com. This
video servers as an instructional as what not to
do. |
| Wedding
- This is the introduction to the DVD created for the wedding of Cindy
and Brodie Waters. Many images shown here are also included in the
correlating website.
The slideshow style presentation was set to the music of Pacabel's
Cannon in D Minor which was used in the ceremony. |
|
| Wallpaper
- Here are a group
of six wallpaper ideas offered in a variety of resolutions to reach
a wide range of monitor callibrations. The works were created in Photoshop
7 with original photography from my tour of Europe and of my pet cat
Lister. I invite everyone to download and use these images for desktop
wallpaper and art appreciation, however, these images cannot be used
for profit. |
|
| Mothers
Day - This
piece was done to celebrate Mother's day 2003. This idea came from
the many Hallmark e-cards I went through before deciding that none
of them fitted my exact sentiments. That is me in the pictures
with both my Mother and Grandmother. |
| Fathers
Day - This
piece was done to celebrate Father's day 2003 after a similar struggle
with online e-cards. Once again, I am hidden amoung the shots of my
siblings and cousins. The final image is of me and my father at Disney
World. |
| Countdown
- This project
was done to introduce a piece of animation never completed for a New
York acting troop. It simulates a 5 second film reel countdown. |
| ISP
- This piece was
designed for use in a website advertizing wireless Internet. The piece
and the website were halted before completion. |
| Missed
you - This
piece was done to emulate the "Missing you" E-cards found
at Hallmark.com. The images were captured from video and transferred
to Flash animation. |
| Buddy
Icon - This
piece fits the requirements of AOL's Instant Messenger 'buddy icon'
and shows an endless loop of a hole in one shot. The work shows my
ability to create precise animation in a confined space. |
| Portfolio
1 - This animation fit into the headpiece of a previous version
of the dobiedesigns website. The premise was to have the icon follow
from page to page displaying varied types of movement. The piece was
scrapped because it runs a little long, and stutters when rollovers
are in use. |
| Portfolio
2 - This was the original intro intended for the dobiedesigns
website. The icon would follow from here to Portfolio 1. |
| Patriot
Day - This is my first Flash animation ever. It was included in
the Atlantic.Net weekly newsletter "The Weekly Wave" on
September 11, 2002. I was very concerned with the subject matter,
and the best way to pay tribute on this first-ever Patriot's Day.
After researching how many contemporary artists and historians were
approaching the subject, I decided to use images of the American Flag
and the absence of the World Trade Towers. I did not use images of
the planes or the Pentagon because there I could only show distruction,
when I felt the emptyness of the missing Towers came closer to my
feelings about this day. The audio track is from U2's 2002 Superbowl
halftime show. |
| Intro
- This exe file was designed to automatically run upon the startup
of the CD. I attempted to make a smoother, more relaxing introduction
than the Portfolio 2 design. The theme was to use subtlety and minimalism
to display the neccesary information in a pleasing atmosphere. You
may notice that the grey boxes are translucent to the blue sky and
clouds that move behind them from right to left. I wanted the title
to appear smoothly from the background as the clouds moved by. The
noises of wind and acoustic guitar are there to set a peaceful mood
for the audience to view the website from. |
